Theme for 2012

Selected Ayahs from Qur’ an for adult participants are taken from:
The Qur’ an – A New Translation by Thomas Cleary (Starlatch Press, 2004).
1 . Cattle (6:54)
When those who believe in Our signs
come to you, say, “ Peace be upon you.”
Your Lord is self-committed to mercy,
So that if any of you does wrong in ignorance,
then repent after that and makes amends,
God is most forgiving, most merciful.
2 . Light (24:61)
…when you enter houses, invoke peace upon each other
with a greeting from God, blessed and wholesome.
Thus does God clarify the signs for you, that you may understand.
3 . The Story (28: 54,55)
They will be given their reword twice,
For being patient, and for averting evil by good,
and for giving of what we have provided them.
And when they hear vain talk,
They turn away from it and say,
“ Our deed to us, your deeds to you.
Peace upon you! We do not seek the ignorant.”
4 . Ya Sin (36: 54 to 58)
Then that day no soul will be wronged
In respect from anything,
As you will not be recompensed
But for what you have done.
As for the inhabitants of the garden,
They will be merry at work that day
They and their mates will be in the shade,
Reclining on couches:
There they will have fruit, and whatever they request.
“ Peace” —— a word from a merciful Lord.
5. The Inevitable (56:25,26)
They will hear no nonsense there,
And no accusation:
Only the saying, “Peace, peace!”

“The Miracle of Qur’an”

“This Qur’an could never have been devised by any besides Allah. Rather it is confirmation of what came before it and an elucidation of the Book, which contains no doubt, from the Lord of all the worlds.” ___ Qur’an; Yunus (10:37)

1. The Prophets (21:30): Creation of Universe

Don’t the scoffers see

that the skies and the earth used to be

one solid mass, then We split them,

and made all living things from water?

Now won’t they believe?

2. Ha Mim: Worship (41:9-11): Creation of Heavens and Earth

Say,” Do you indeed deny the One

who created the earth in two days?…

and put mountains on the earth, and blessed it,

and apportioned its nutriments thereon,

in four days, equitably to seekers.

Then God designed the sky, which had been a vapor,

Then said to it and to the earth,

“Come, willingly or unwillingly.”

They said, “We come willingly.”

3. The Scattering Winds (51:47): Expansion of Universe

And it is We, who have constructed the heaven with might,

and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.

4. The Ants (27:88): Rotation of Earth

You see the mountains and think them fixed,

yet they pass away as the clouds pass,

a design of God, who has arranged everything:

Indeed, God knows whatever you do.

5. Ya Sin (36:80): Oxygen

The One who produced fire for you

from the green tree,

from which you then kindle fires!

6. Decoration (43:11): Rain

And the One who sends water down

from the sky, in due proportion;

and We resurrect thereby a dead land,

which is how you’ll be brought forth.

7. The Bee (16:15): Mountains

And God put mountains on the earth,

lest it shake with you;

and rivers and roads;

that you may find your way;

and landmarks.

And they also find their way by the stars.

8. Kneeling (45:5): Wind

And in the alternation of Night and Day,

and the provision God sends down from the sky,

by which God enlivens the earth after its death,

and in the shifting of the winds,

are Signs for intelligent people.

9. The Benevolent One (55:19-20): Barrier between sweet and salty water

He has let loose the two seas,

converging together;

with a barrier between them

they do not break through.

10. The Family of Imran (3:190): Day and Night

Surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth,

and the alternation of night and day,

are Signs for people of understanding.

11. The Bee (16:68-69): Bee

And your Lord inspired the bee,

“Make your houses in the mountains, in the trees,

and in buildings they (men) construct;

“then eat from all the fruits,

gently walking the pathways of your Lord.”

From within them exudes a drink

Of various colors, in it is healing for humankind.

Surely in that is a sign for people who reflect.
